Privacy
This page describes what this application does with the Google account you sign in with. It is written for the people invited to use it, and for Google's OAuth consent screen, which requires it.
Who runs this
The Local News Impact Consortium, at localnewsimpact.org. Questions about anything here go to data@localnewsimpact.org.
What we ask Google for
Two things, and nothing else: your email address and your basic profile — the name and picture on your Google account. Google calls these non-sensitive scopes. We do not ask for your contacts, your calendar, your files, or anything in any other Google service, and we cannot read them.
What we store, and why
- Your email address — it is how the application knows which account is yours across visits, and how an administrator recognises you when granting access.
- Your name, as Google gives it, shown beside actions you take so colleagues can see who did what.
- When you last signed in, so an administrator can see which accounts are still in use.
- What you do here — an audit record of changes you make to research data, naming you, so a change can be traced and undone.
We do not store your Google password; we never see it. We do not store your profile picture.
Who else sees it
Nobody outside the consortium. Your address and name are visible to other people signed in to this application, on the pages that list accounts and in the audit record. We do not sell it, we do not share it with advertisers, and we do not use it to build a profile of you. It is not used for advertising of any kind.
The application runs on Google Cloud, which stores this data on our behalf under our account. Nothing is passed to any other third party.
How long we keep it
While your account exists here. Ask us to delete it and we will remove the account and its access; the audit record of changes you made to research data is kept, because a record of who changed what stops being useful the moment it can be edited.
Who can sign in
Accounts on localnewsimpact.org, and addresses an administrator has invited by name. Signing in does not by itself give you access to anything: an administrator grants a role on a dataset, and without one you can see nothing.
Your choices
You can revoke this application's access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. That stops you signing in; it does not delete the account here, which you can ask us to do.
